Qonto | Fintech Localization for Portugal

How do you make a French fintech resonate with Portuguese entrepreneurs?

  • Localized content strategy for Qonto's Portuguese market launch in 2024

  • Supported European expansion reaching 100K+ SME clients

  • Portuguese CRM emails achieved higher-than-expected open rates in first week

  • Developed SEO content to help Qonto rank for business banking terms in Portugal

When Qonto, Europe's leading fintech for SMEs and freelancers, decided to enter the Portuguese market in 2024, they needed more than someone who could speak Portuguese and was good with words. They needed someone who understood how Portuguese business owners think, communicate, and choose their business tools.

The tone had to be professional but warmer. I worked with Qonto's organic acquisition and SEO teams to build their Portuguese content presence, and localize it accurately from the content already present in France and Belgium.

I worked on their main business landing page with localized content that spoke directly to how Portuguese SME owners think about business banking. Then I developed SEO content to help Qonto rank for the search terms that actually matter in Portugal, helping them reach over 100K+ SME clients across Europe as they expanded.

I also localized legal documents from French to Portuguese, as well as ad copy for Meta and Google, testing different messaging angles across business segments to see what resonated.

The Portuguese CRM emails saw higher-than-expected open rates in their first week, signaling the localizing approach was working.
